Over the course of the last 35 years Dr. Tuch has supervised psychiatrists-in-training at U.C.L.A.’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. Since becoming a Training and Supervising Analyst in the mid-1990s, Dr. Tuch has also supervised a number of psychoanalysts and analysts-in-training at The New Center for Psychoanalysis (NCP) and The Psychoanalytic Center of California (PCC). Dr. Tuch has also been actively involved in running supervision groups at The Wright Institute. Over time Dr. Tuch has developed a particular philosophy about supervision that involves helping therapists think through why they are conducting treatment in a particular fashion. This involves an emphasis on exploring the therapist’s reactions to the patient–what is known as “countertransference.”
